Call for Artists!

Are you a visual artist or do you know one who is looking to make a mark in the public realm? 

With the support of the City of Toronto and BIA Office, Lakeshore Village BIA is looking for a mural artist for their 2024 public art project.

PROJECT DETAILS

The Lakeshore Village BIA Board will select an artist to plan and execute a large outdoor wall mural at 2869 Lake Shore Blvd. West.  Submissions must take into consideration a budget of $7350 (including HST) for planning and execution of the new mural including artist payment, all equipment and supplies.

Theme: “Celebrating our diverse neighbourhood”. The artist, when selected by the BIA, will need to research the BIA community the area and engage local interest groups to ensure representation.  The BIA can assist in this.  The BIA and business owner would like to see the artist incorporate the architectural elements of the location and provide a bright bold mural to animate the busy corner.

This mural is funded by a City of Toronto grant and must include the City of Toronto logo (provided by BIA), the Lakeshore Village BIA logo, and be approved by the City of Toronto before execution.

Eligibility: This is an open, Toronto-wide competition for a professional artist able to execute a large-scale outdoor wall mural.  Preference will be given to artists who have experience with large scale outdoor projects either as lead or assistant.

PROJECT TIMELINE:

Submissions Now Open

August 30 – Deadline for submissions

September 6 – Artist selection

September 6 to November 15 – Mural design and submission to City of Toronto and property owner for approval and execution of the mural.  A more detailed timeline will be agreed upon with the selected artist based on their process.

SUBMISSIONS
Artists must submit the following to be considered for the project:

  • Resume
  • A PDF document with at least 3 photos of 3 different past works.  Two must be painted mural work (traffic boxes, sidewalks, garage doors, indoor work that has been painted can be included)
  • Short statement of commitment to researching the mural content

Mural location:

2869 Lakeshore Blvd West (width – between tree and electrical pole, minimum height top of fire escape door.)

Submissions must be received by 11:59 pm EST, August 30 2024. Submissions should be made to lakeshorebia@gmail.com with the subject line “Mural Artist submission 2024”. Late submissions will not be accepted.
